Staff: The Faculty Members, Research Scholars, Students (P.G. and U.G.), and the Administrative Staff of the University are the Members of the Library. Provide a soft copy of passport size for generation of Library -cum- ID card. The photo should have a frontal view of your face and white background.

Visiting Faculty: Guest Faculties, Visiting Faculties from foreign and national universities / institutes are granted temporary membership to the library. Foreign students and research scholars who come to visit the University for a semester or so under any student exchange programme are also granted temporary library membership during their tenure at the University.

External Users: 

  1. Students, Research Scholars and Faculty Members     of other National Law Schools: Any under-graduate and post-graduate students, research scholars, and faculty members of any national law schools, which participate in CLAT, can access the library and use its resources in any format – print and digital – within the library premises only. Photocopying, printing and scanning are also permitted as according to the NUJS Library Rules. They have to strictly maintain discipline and decorum in the library and to follow all library rules and regulations.

To access – they have to produce the following documents

  1. Bonafide Letter / certificate issued by the appropriate authority of their University 
  2. Copy of their institutional photo-identity card
  3. Formal application mentioning their purpose of visiting NUJS Library, intended duration of usage
  4. Students, Research Scholars and other Professionals affiliated to Universities, Institution of Higher Education other than national law schools/ non-affiliated professionals: 

They would be granted permission on producing 

  1. Bonafide Letter / certificate issued by the appropriate authority of their University 
  2. Copy of their  institutional photo-identity card 
  3. Formal application mentioning their purpose of visiting NUJS library, intended duration of usage
  4. Users belonging to this category have to pay a fee of Rs. 50.00 / day through Union Bank of India, NUJS Campus Branch. Bank details will be provided once permission is granted. 
  5. Payment receipt / copy of same is to be attached to their application
  6. A temporary library user’s slip would be issued by the library staff. Outside users are requested to keep this user slip in their safe custody, in case of multiple days usage permission. They have to produce the same to the library staff or security staff on each visit.

ID Card:  All registered NUJS students have to at the time of enrollment provide a soft copy of passport size for generation of Library -cum- ID card and fill in a Library cum ID Membership form. The photo should have a frontal view of your face. 

  • Deactivate the card: Open ‘My Accounts’ in the webOPAC Chamo and click on ‘I lost my card’ button.
  • Immediately report the loss of ID -cum -Library Card to the nearest Police Station and make a General Diary.
  • Pay duplicate card fee of Rs.100 to Accounts Section against a challan issued by them.
  • Make an application for duplicate ID card to the University Librarian along with
  • Copy of General Diary, 2) copy of challan from the Accounts Section 
The library has over 250 lockers available on first cum first served basis for the day only. Key are issued by Security at the Library gate.
Books: In open stack area, the arrangement of books on shelves is according to DDC (Dewey Decimal Classification Scheme) class numbers in an ascending order. To assist in locating books fast 

  1. Bay cards are inserted into the side slots of the shelves which gives an outline of the most relevant subjects and their corresponding DDC numbers, so that users can go straight to the shelf of his/her subject area and browse the titles there after
  2. ‘Subject Guides’ are provided on two ends of the stack area
  3. If the user is looking for a particular title, s/he may first browse the online library catalogue (webOPAC), locate the desired title in the online  catalogue, note down its classification number and go directly to the shelf tracking that call number. If the required title is on shelf, his/her search stops there. If not, s/he may seek assistance from the library staff for further action. If the desired title is found to be issued, the member can put a reservation (by filling up a designated slip) for the same at the library circulation desk.[One should be ready to invest sometime to learn how to use webOPAC and make best of it for your study and research. 

Journal Archive & Reports: Locating bound volumes of journals (journal archive) in the open stack journal section is much easier. Here also indicative bay lists, as well as tags with journal titles are pasted on the shelves. One can get to know about the archival collections of each bound volumes of journal and reports from the list provided besides the entrance of the journal section.

Bare Acts are kept in the Main Hall, with an index file to locate the same. You may seek assistance from library staff if bound volume of journal and/ or Bare Acts are not found  in  their  proper  place

Current journals and magazines: are displayed in the Hall of Dead Silence. If a current periodical (its latest issue) is not found on the display rack, assistance can be sought from the library staff. You will also find here a list of Magazines for General Reading and a list of Newspapers subscribed to.

Books need to be self-issued from the self-checkout machine installed at the entrance of the Library Reading Hall. Self-issue can be done anytime the Library is open. In case of break-down of the system, one may approach the library staff at the Book Return 
There are different entitlements for different categories of users to issue different types of library materials.

LL.B. students: Two books at a time for a period of 3 days and reissued once if no reservation is pending.

LL.M. students: Four books are issued at a time for a period of three days and reissued once if no reservation is pending.

  1. Phil & RAs: Five books are issued at a time for a period of seven days and reissued once if no reservation is pending.

Ph. D Scholars: Students who have confirmed registration and have been allocated a guide will be permitted the facility of library membership and borrowing of 2 books (optional) for a period of seven days. Those who wish to avail of the facility should need to deposit a refundable caution money of Rs. 7000.

Faculty: Ten books are issued at a time for a period of 20 days. They are permitted to issue bound volumes of journals for class reference/ overnight issue. Additional books (3 text books per subject per semester) are issued on semester mode too.

Staff: Four books are issued at a time for a period of 7 days.

 

Restricted documents

Books marked ‘Reference’, and loose issues of journals and magazines are not issued

The bound volumes of journals, Bare Acts, Reference books are issued to Faculty members as per rules.

Students who are preparing for various moot court competitions and are going to represent the University at these competitions, national as well as international, are allowed to issue these restricted kinds of documents with prior permission from the library authority.

CD-ROMs, DVDs, Theses and Dissertations can ot to be checked out or photocopied.

Reference books are not issuable under normal circumstances. However, a faculty member can issue such a book for one day only with due permission from the University Librarian / Assistant Librarian. Students who are researching for Moot Court competitions can also take such books during their preparation period, as well as during the competitions.
While bound volumes of journals are displayed on the stacks, loose (not current) issues are not. They will be provided by the library staff on filling up of the ‘Journal Requisition Slip’. Loose journals have to be returned at the circulation desk after reading.
Books that are not overdue or have not been requested by another borrower can be renewed once (by oneself), expiry of which it needs to be returned back to the Library. The reissue should be done by one self (like self-issuing of book) from ‘My Accounts’ [Staff will not be available for this service].
Moot team have to submit an application to the library stating the name of the moot, team members, and subject areas wherein books will be issued. This needs to be countersigned by the Moot Court Society Faculty Advisor. Thereafter an account will be opened in the name of the moot and the team members are eligible to borrow books including reference titles overnight.
There is no cap on number of books issued, however loose issues and bound volumes of journals are not issued at all.
Books are issued overnight. All books are expected to be returned by 9.30 am

the following day

There is no restriction in the teams taking books to the competition, provided due approvals are taken beforehand.
In case of loss or damage the team is held responsible and will be expected to replace the title.
A book can only be reserved if it is checked out. Reservation needs to be done on WebOPAC, and by you yourself. Go to WebOPAC (http://webopac.nujs.ac.in), open ‘My Accounts’, make a search of the book, and click on ‘Request’. If there are multiple reservations/requests for the same title, the book is issued according to their order of reservation.

View ‘Requests’ (Reservations) placed by you (i.e. position of your request in the queue if multiple requests exist for a single item/ title.). Your request status will change eventually from ‘Pending’ to ‘Available for Pick-up’, and finally, if the book is not picked-up in time, to ‘Expired’. A reservation can be deactivated and cancelled (from your account) .

A book once returned, is reserved for the next person who has requested for the book  for one working day. Keep checking your request position from ‘My Accounts.
You will receive e-mail alerts. One can also get to know of his/her circulation statistics from the library webOPAC under My Account tab.
The library does not levy fine on its members for overdue documents as the Library firmly trusts in the social responsibility of its users. Returning documents late, if practiced by anyone, is strictly proscribed. 
Report immediately to the Assistant Librarian. If not found you will have to replace it by buying a copy to the University.
Off course, you can. Complete a ‘Book Requisition Slip’ and send over to the University Librarian Students should get these forms forwarded by their respective guides/any faculty members.

Rules & Regulations of the Library

Yes, one is allowed to bring his/her course materials, personal books, books already issued to them, personal photocopies (loose as well as bound), magazines, journals, books of other library etc. inside the library. (No permission needs to be sought). The electronic security system installed at the Library facilitates this arrangement.

However, bags and folders are strictly prohibited.

Scanned dust/cover pages of new additions (books, documents) to the Library are uploaded periodically. These documents will be on display in the designated spot in the Library. Besides, prints- out of these dust /cover pages will be pinned up on the Notice Board outside the Library. 
Photocopying/Reprography
This service is out-sourced. Materials may be photocopied on spot payment to the

vendors stationed at the Library at the rate negotiated and fixed by the University. Four photocopying machines provided under this arrangement.

Laser printing facility is provided at the Library by the outsourced parties. Printout may be made against spot payment at the rate fixed by the University
Scanning can be done by the user himself/herself or one may seek library staff’s assistance for the same. Scanning is a free service.
Soft copies of previous years’ question papers are shared on google drive of institutional batch ID 
Scanned scripts of the best answer if and when they  are received from the Academic Section are available in the library.
Digitized Study Materials are shared on google drive of institutional batch ID. The library also has soft copies of Study Materials uploaded in a number of machines within the Reading Hall.
We have over 1794  e-books from various publishers.
